Lexa Rosean is one of the best - a small, elite coterie - DJs in New York City, My partner and I prowl the afternoon and night milongas seeking inspiration for our dance. Often finding nonstop rhythmic marching music, we leave disappointed. Lexa never disappoints. Not only does she offer the broadest range of Argentine tango music, she is present with the dancers in the best sense. She constantly takes the pulse the room monitoring energy, tone, temp and raising and lowering it with her selections, as appropriate. She draws from a vast library, assembled over many years, plays exciting combinations, gorgeous old romantic orchestras and some contemporary pieces that are challenging for the dance. We are always thrilled to see her hame as the DJ, and will follow her wherever she plays. We know if Lexa is the DJ, our dance will touch the stars.

Tango Sabbatical

it's been awhile since I posted here. I've been busy with otra cosas. I wanted to thank everyone who has supported my milongas and classes through the years. I'm taking a break this year from organizing, hosting, and teaching group lessons. I'll still be dj'ing here and there and will continue to teach my private students. After 16 1/2 years, I really needed to step back and come back around to tango for pleasure - not for work. I'll see you on the dancefloor.

Burleigh and Joanne play the early tango for dancers. Early compositions from Villoldo,Greco, Arolas and others are the center of our repertoire. Our emphasis is on getting the sound of the small bands from the turn of the century.

Luna Palacios was born in Buenos Aires. The greatest inspiration for her was her teacher and friend, the late Carlos Gavito. Shortly after they met, Carlos became Luna's artistic mentor. She became the favourite dancing partner of several great dancers such as: Oliver Kolker, “El Flaco” Dany Garcia, Horacio Britos (aka: PIbe Avellaneda), y Carlos Copello.
She had travelled extensively to teach and perfom in Argentina and overseas. Luna has also performed in every single important venue in Buenos Aires: Club Sunderland, Salon Canning, La Viruta, La Baldosa, Glorias Argentinas, El Arranque, Porteno y Bailarin among others.
Nowadays, she travels back and forth from Argentina to perform and teach in different places around the world. Her intuitive style of teaching opens the door of enjoyment to everyone that is interested in this popular dance.
Luna’s ultimate goal is to make contagious to everyone, her love and understanding of her greatest passion: Tango Argentino.

Diego Mohammad was born in Villa Urquiza, Buenos Aires to a family of tango dancers. Diego Mohammad has had great successes in competitions such as 2nd place in the Metropolitano de Tango Salon - Buenos Aires 2008, Finalist in the Mundial de Tango - Buenos Aires 2008 and 2009, 1st place in the "Most elegant couple" category in the Mundial de Tango - Buenos Aires 2009 . Diego has taught along side teachers such as Gabriel Misse with whom he co created "La Practica a La Antigua" in Buenos Aires and for five years Diego has assisted Carlos and Rosa Perez, well known and respected teachers of the Sunderland Club milonga.

To conclude the LACW (Latin American Cultural Week) Libertad will offer a SPECIAL CHACARERA CLASS with Genoveva Baez
($5 extra after admission price)
Come and learn this beautiful Argentine folkloric dance from an expert. You'll never have to sit out the chacarera again. And if you've already had some lessons - come and brush up your chacarera with this special class taught by Genoveva Baez.

Genoveva started dancing folklore at age of 10 and by the age of 15 she was already part of a traveling dancing group. She participated many times in tv shows as well as in the international Fiesta de la Vendimia in Mendoza Argentina. She taught folklore in different private schools in Argentina.

The class will be one hour (8:30-9:30pm) and in between the tangos, valses, y milongas, we will dance many chacareras
At 11pm Genoveva and her partner ARMANDO MILLAN will perform chacarera y samba for us.
