911 Tango Commute
posted on You Tube by Amy Zheng
"9/11 is being remembered for the loss of life but will be empowered by an expression of the love for living. TangoCommute is turning the tragic events into some positive action while remembering and supporting those who were directly affected by the tragedy since:
Terror is an act of intimidation spreading fear. Tango - on the opposite - is an expression of freedom generating joy Music "Abrazame" - you do not only say to anything abrazame to me. your glance is enough to me to include/understand that your wraths. abrazame, as if outside now the first time as if you wanted to me today just as yesterday, abrazame. LAST DAYS FOR LESBIAN LOUNGE
July 1, 2008 --
RUBYFRUIT, the beloved West Village lesbian bar and restaurant, is closing after 15 years - a victim of rising rents and smaller crowds. "It was the first of its kind as a meeting place for local lesbians and those visiting New York from all over the world," owner Debra Fierro told Page Six. "But there have been great strides, and I think lesbians are comfortable anywhere now." The bar, named after Rita Mae Brown's best seller "Rubyfruit Jungle," was written about in Patricia Cornwell's thrillers and hosted Martina Navratilova's retirement party. It once employed as a bartender Tammy Lynn Michaels, who later "wed" Melissa Etheridge. Straights like Liza Minnelli and Ashford and Simpson also dropped in. Fierro is talking with Socialista owner Armin Amiri and others about taking over the space. But her last few weeks at Rubyfruit have her "totally heartbroken. I love this place. When I told some of the women at the bar the other night, they were crying."

Tangostars May/Jun 08
The Bull will have plenty of fun but after May 10, things get tricky with travel and on the dance floor. Jupiter and Mercury take an awkward backstep causing annoying delays on a trip but even worse, they destroy your timing with the cabeceo. Best to stay calm and seated at your table. Take your pleasure in the milonga by enjoying a juicy Argentine steak. Don’t be surprised when the one you most wish to dance with finds you and comes to sit right by your side!
Best Milonga Dates:
May 4, 5, 12, 13, 18
Jun 8, 9, 13, 28, 29
Feliz Cumpleaños Gemini
The Twins are clear about whom they want to tango with but the rest of life’s dance has you moving in different directions simultaneously and it will be hard to make up your minds. What is promised is passion and an exciting ride with many high kicks and lifts as well as low dips. In June, Mercury takes you through an insane Nuevo journey but you’ll discover a clever way of moving that leads you more directly to your heart’s desire.
Best Milonga Dates:
May 6, 7, 14, 15, 20
Jun 2, 3, 11, 12, 30

Borges said: “The Falklands thing was a fight between two bald men over a comb.” Your thing will be a fight between you and that horrible man with the bad toupee over the line of dance. He will bump into you hard and destroy the sanctity of your embrace. Then this malevo with the bad breath will hurl insults at you even though he was clearly in the wrong. Stay cool and keep your mouth shut but your cuchillo ready. If he stabs you once more with the stiletto of his partner, you then have the permiso to cut into him deep.
Best Milonga Dates:

Como dice Borges: "El infinito tango me lleva hacia todo". (The infinite tango takes me towards everything. ") and these months you will find work, money, housing, guidance, friendship, love, and sex through tango. You will even find a new psychotherapist (and certainly the milongas are crowded with them!) There is no need for you to look anywhere else to make your dreams come true.
Best Milonga Dates:

Sudden insights into your dance make you happy but it will take long hours of practice to create the muscle memory you desire. Add more practices to your schedule or come to the milonga early and take advantage of the space on the floor. By June, you will be ready to show off your new moves with confidence.
Best Milonga Dates:

A great milonguero spoke these words of wisdom: “In my tango youth, I used to think that if we had a great tango connection, then we would have great sex together. I was often wrong about that. In my middle years, I discovered that sometimes it did transfer. (And sometimes not.) I felt grateful for any good fit whether in the bed or on the dance floor.” In my golden years, I discovered the secret clues that bring passion in both these arenas. You will now learn the same.

There is one move that you keep coming back to because you enjoy the friction and the feeling of it. Perhaps it is the # 3 of the basico when the thigh of the leader rubs against the thigh of the follower. Perhaps it is a deep secada where the thigh of the leader presses into – well you get the idea… For each of you it will be something different, but you will repeat this movement over and over until it becomes more complex and layered and you have found a way to infuse your core figure into every step of your life. It will be sexy and joyous.

Borges said: “Being with you and not being with you is the only way I have to measure time.” That is how you feel about the tango. Your milongas are measured and few as your home and work life picks up at a pace faster than the traspie. You relish every moment of the embrace and when you are not in it, you absentmindedly dream of it as you methodically go through your days until the next wail of the bandaneon relieves your suffering heart.

Borges said: “I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” Your heavenly collection is You Tube. Each day you discover a clip even more divine until your computer freezes and forces you into purgatory. Then you must go to a milonga immediately and find a living savior to redeem you through the dance. Remember Memorex is good but live tango is best!

Great ideas are stirring within you but you must keep your plans secret until June 20th. In the meantime, woo all your followers and leaders away from your competitors. Give them dances, compliments, even loan them money. Do whatever it takes, because when you open the doors to your new milonga, they’ll all come running to support their favorite milonguero/a.

You need a dark secluded place. A place where no one knows your face… At Confitera Ideal or any milonga you go – you can meet your tango teacher and everyone you know! But if you go to the spot that I am thinking of, you will be free...to gaze at me and talk of love. Just knock three times and whisper low that you and I were sent by Jose. Ole!

Borges said: “The original is unfaithful to the translation.” So don’t fret about copying the estilo of your teachers for you will soon surpass the masters. However, the size of your head is now more inflated than an Argentine ego. There is not much humility in the origin of the tango but perhaps you can find some lost in translation.

tango death and rebirth
the eager faces of my students are a beacon of light
a budding spring
reminding me of my own tango youth.
reminding me of the hope I once held for my dance and my life.
reminding me that I can still inspire in others what I no longer carry within.
Dancing and Depressed.
"No I am not tired. "I said even though I was resting out the tanda.
"Then perhaps you are in love. It is the same, you know - tired and in love.
Being in love makes you dizzy." he smiled.
"Yes, I know" I smiled back.
I was feeling dizzy.
I had gotten a bit drunk before the milonga (something I never do) because I lost a job earlier in the afternoon and it seemed appropriate to get inebriated. If I had been tired or in love, these feelings were quickly supplanted by the onset of deep panic.
A long long time ago, my astrologer told me that I needed to dance in order to avoid committing suicide. So I began to dance.
It saved my life for several decades.
I am now wondering if this is still an effective remedy.
It was only in the elevator on the way out that I found my lost sense of humor, dignity, and desire to live.
A gentleman and two ladies accompanied me down. The ladies buzzed about my dapper hat and I made some comment back to them. The gentleman was taken aback and he said:
"Your voice is higher than I expected. I thought you were a -"
"The ladies buzzed again and chuckled deeply.
"Shall I lower my voice for you?" I asked while straightening my corbata. And I did so speaking in a deep husky range.
"I thought you were a -
You are dressed like a -
I thought you were a -" he repeated.
"I AM" I said in my best basso.
"It is ok, the ladies assured him. It takes a woman to know these things."
In that moment I ceased to feel so depressed for being such a loser.
At least I was recognized for the milonguero I am.

PeekaBoo I see YOU
Lyrics courtesty of planet-tango.com
Peregrino y soñador,
cantar,
quiero mi fantasía
y la loca poesía
que hay en mi corazón!
Lleno de amor y de alegría,
volcaré mi pasion.
Siempre sentí
la dulce ilusión
de estar viviendo
mi pasión.
Si es que no vivo lo que sueño
Yo sueño todo lo que canto,
por eso mi encanto
es el amor.
Mi pobre alma de bohemio
quiero acariciar
y como una flor
perfumar.
Y en mis noches de dolor
a hablar
me voy con las estrellas,
y las cosas más bellas
despierto he de soñar.
Porque les confío a ellas
toda mi sed de amar.
Siempre sentí
la dulce ilusión
de estar viviendo
mi pasión.
Yo busco en los ojos celestes
y en renegridas cabelleras
pasiones sinceras,
dulce emoción.
Y en mi eterna vida errante
llena de ilusión,
yo quiero dar todo
mi corazón.
Traveler and dreamer,
to sing,
I want (to sing) my fantasy
and the mad poetry
that there is in my heart!
Filled with love and joy,
I'll empty out my passion.
I always felt
the sweet illusion
to be living
my passion.
If I don't live what I dream
I dream all that I sing,
that's why my charm
is love.
My poor bohemian soul
I want to caress
and like a flower
permeate with perfume.
And in my nights of pain
to speak
I go (to speak) with the stars,
and the most beautiful things
awake, I'm going to dream
Because I trust in them
all my thirst for love.
I always felt
the sweet illusion
to be living
my passion.
I look for in the light blue eyes
and in black long hairs;
sincere passions,
sweet emotion.
And in my eternal wandering life
filled with illusion,
I want to give all
my heart.
An additional note: While you are watching the empty stage, take notice of the lovely chandeliers. Although they shed light, they are rooted in "nights of pain". It is rumored they were purchased with gold teeth collected from murdered Jews in Ukranian concentration camps during the Holocaust.

You are not prepared for what’s coming – yet you have dreamed and waited your whole life for it. They don’t often play Libertango in the milongas. Yes, it is your freedom being offered. Now is not the time to play the planchadora! Get off the wall and grab the tango that’s meant for you. Continue to dance it outside the milonga for it resonates within your heart and your soul wants to soar with it through all the moments of your life.

Of course you will only stay until the announcements and then run to the next. The malevos make you dizzy until the Vernal equinox (Mar 21) and then, their sharpened knives and tongues are no match for your own warlike tactics. Competition is good for you – the fiercer, the better!
Best Milonga Dates:
Mar 5, 8, 9, 17, 18, 22
Apr 4, 5, 14, 17, 18, 23

Remember the codas in the milonga. No man/no woman belongs to only one. You must share your partners even though this feels as if it will kill you. You must also completely resist killing others and patiently wait your turn. Trust in the prosperity principle and know that there are enough partners in the dance to go around. On a personal note, you can be as possessive as you like with a lover.

Pluto gives you the gift of a glimpse of how fully your life could be lived, and your visage reflects the lightness and elegance of Aroma de Amor, but behind the playful and carefree Biagi vals - a flash in your eyes reveals the underbelly of your emotions and the fear that this newfound happiness will be snatched away. There in your soul lays a dark obsessive side wailing to di Sarli’s Tormenta. How can such pleasure and pain coexist on the same face? Only the twin could dance such a dance.

You and your partner dance an inspired dance and the dream to travel to tango Mecca comes as fierce as a March lion. You must go to Bs As at the top of the month and return at the end all warm and rested like a lamb. Don’t wait until April, as you will be showered with work and family responsibilities that require you to be focused and stay at home.

How many times are you going to drag yourself to the same milonga and wait for the same orquesta to play so you can dance with the same tired old one!? Let go of it all and allow yourself to embrace something and someone new. It is time to learn and push the limits of all you know in tango and beyond. Allow yourself to dream a life bigger than the one you presently dance to.

Usually when you fall in love, your tango gets kind of sloppy. Not this time. Saturn in a close embrace with your sign makes you the master of discipline and Pluto’s quick traspie through your house of sex keeps that deep smile fixed on your lips. You’ll play the fool (but flawlessly) as you follow your feelings and your steps will match your heartbeat in perfect time.

Your apartment has been transformed and you feel a deep gratification in all you have creatively accomplished. In April you receive the chance to make the same renovation in your dance. Your new partner will take some work and imagination to transform but once it happens you will CLICK like you’ve never clicked before on the dance floor. Move over Dorothy and surrender those Ruby Slippers, as YOU now own the exclusive rights on the phrase “There’s no place like home.”

Your day job is reminiscent of the music of Florindo Sassone and you wish the dj would pull the plug on all the histrionics! But by night you are transformed into a di Sarli lullaby. It is dreamy as your tango extends way beyond the milonga into the wee hours where romance and good old-fashioned sex keep you up all night. Unfortunately, you still have to get up in the morning and face the drama and Jalousie of your co-workers.

You dream of the Motherland and like all immigrants, you want to recreate the warn feeling of home. Argentine tango suits your soul and like a pied piper you will play a tune so seductive as to lure the children of the milonga away from their regular hang outs and into your new barrio. Aside from being fun, this amusement will also be lucrative. Use your cunning and creativity to pull it off.

The Devil arrives in the seediest of tango clubs and gives you the cabeceo. It is not wise to refuse this personal invitation to dance. The orquesta is not just playing some tango but a milonga candombe. You’d better grab his horns and sige el baile – go on dancing. Get with the earth, down and dirty with the mud. Let the blackness of your heart reveal itself and emerge into the light. El Diablo will show you how to turn your leaden feet into gold.

The orange flower perfumes the air and you follow the scent to find the source of this sweetness. The butterfly lands on the tip of your nose and makes you feel like a clown in a dream. A portal has opened for you to experience the most exquisite tango of your life. To dance it will also bring you unbearable pain. Do not be afraid of this embrace for it will transform your soul.

This sentiment is echoed by Dr. Beliavsky in the foreword, who suggested that "by joining the visionary forces of two great educators, Lev Vygotsky and Howard Gardner [of Harvard University], we can….develop a universal approach of furthering children's abilities as we nurture their individual intelligences." Dr. Beliavsky refers to Vygotsky's concept of the "Zone of Proximal Development" and to Gardner's theory that all individuals have at least eight intelligences—mathematical, linguistic, musical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal and intrapersonal. —that should be used to measure one's "I.Q." or intelligence quotient.
Dr. Clyde Coreil is a Professor of English as a Second Language at New Jersey City University and is the editor of the Journal of Imagination in Language Learning and Teaching. He holds a M.F.A. degree in playwriting from Carnegie Mellon University and Ph.D. in Linguistics from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York. The new publication by N.J.C.U. is the second of a two-volume study of the relation between education and the imagination. The first, Multiple Intelligences, Howard Gardner and New Methods of College Teaching was edited by Dr. Coreil in 2003 after a conference at which Dr. Gardner was keynote speaker. ccoreil@njcu.edu

Goose and Gander
I expect him to lead.
Is this a new technique? Should the ladies employ it as well to get dances? No offense guys but if a lady tried to corner me like that I'd run away too. Call me old fashioned but I prefer the cabeceo and I practice it as both a leader and a follower. If you gents want to follow, you should let yourselves in for the WHOLE experience and that includes wallflowering. I want you to sit and bat your eyelashes at me or wink from across the room and wait for my nod of the head. I want to find you with my eyes when the music is right for you to be in my arms. As far as I'm concerned, inviting someone to dance when you intend to lead is like offering a ride. Inviting someone to dance when you intend to follow is like asking for one. Call me a bull headed macha, but that's how I see it.
p.s. I also like my followers in heels!
